This rural community is well known for its fertile soil and farming character.  In fact, a significant portion of the land in Central Saanich is set aside for agricultural purposes and is protected from residential development.  A majority of  dwellings in this area are single-family homes situated on large lots.  The area has a limited industrial park on Keating Cross Road and small shopping districts in Brentwood Bay and Saanichton.  Central Saanich is home to the world famous Butchart Gardens and the municipality boasts the Cordova Channel and Island View Beach on its east coast and the Saanich Inlet on its west coast.
