The municipality of Esquimalt has historically been known to be the home of those in the working class or of native origin.  Today it is better known for hosting the Pacific Fleet of the Canadian Forces and CFB Esquimalt.  Residents of this area enjoy the beauty of the nearby sea shore and the lovely Gorge and Saxe Point Parks.  Throughout the years, Esquimalt has maintained a "small" feel to itself and is often referred to as the community "beyond the bridge."  Esquimalt offers a mix of old and new in terms of the housing that is available.  There is plenty of shopping and recreational facilities available to residents since it is situated only 2.5 miles from downtown Victoria.
